Preschool

Eligibility

Children may qualify for eligibility in one or more of the following areas: communication, vision, hearing, motor skills, social-emotional/behavioral functioning, self-help skills and /or cognitive skills.

Parents with concerns about their child’s development should contact us at 567-444-4818.  The assessment process will include a screening where information is collected about the child’s development with input from the parent and then further formal assessment if needed. A team of professionals will assist you through this process.

The program offers the opportunity for children who have strong skills in all areas of development to be included as “typical peers”. The child must also be a resident of the school district they are assigned as a typical peer. Typical peers are screened as part of their entrance, through a screening process provided by the Northwest Ohio ESC. Typical peer selection is limited as state mandates the number of typical peers our programs can accept.

About the Program

The public schools are required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Public Law 105-17 to locate, identify, evaluate and provide a free and appropriate public education for preschool children with disabilities ages 3 through 5. This program is funded in part by Ohio Department of Education to help school districts assure that all preschool children with disabilities are provided an appropriate education tailored to fit their disability and needs. The Northwest Ohio ESC operates these preschool programs in the four counties of Defiance, Fulton, Henry and Williams.

Screening Information

For a screening appointment please contact the Northwest Ohio ESC, 567-444-4818, the last week of January of the year prior to the school year you would like your child to attend. All applicants will be assigned a screening date and time and typical peers for each classroom will be selected after the screenings are complete.

Note: there is a tuition fee for all typical peers.
